Sarah Coombs October 17, 2014

The title of this post says it all. I've seen lots of cute homes for our avian friends, but I'm pretty sure this one takes the cake.

Worldly and eclectic outdoor fabrics

Sarah Coombs October 1, 2014

Fans of this blog know that I love indoor/outdoor products. There's one problem with them though. Their breadth of styles--while growing all the time--is not as huge as I'd like. That's why I was so excited to discover Link Outdoor, which makes some great designs with a real bohemian vibe.

SCD in Alameda Magazine: bring style to your backyard

Sarah Coombs September 24, 2014

From my article in the latest issue of Alameda Magazine:

The same rules for designing indoors work outside, too. Make sure you have adequate lighting to enjoy [your backyard] late into the evening, but steer clear of harsh fluorescents. String lights, outdoor lanterns, and candles will create a glow that’s far more flattering. Stuck with an unwelcoming, dark corner? A large mirror will do wonders for opening up the space. And if you need a bit more color, try a few throw pillows and rugs. Just be sure to use ones fashioned from outdoor acrylics so they’re sure to last.

From my article in the latest issue of Oakland Magazine:

For years, white kitchens have reigned supreme. It’s easy to see why. They’re clean, bright, and tasteful; they’ll always be classic. But there’s a new kind of style on the block, and it’s closing in on the standing champ.

Kirkwood wallpaper by Thibaut

Sarah Coombs August 29, 2014

I love a jolt of whimsy in decor. That's why I was so pleased to come across this pattern when doing research for a client's dining room the other day. It's called Kirkwood, and it's from the Shangri-La collection for Thibaut, the venerable American design house.
