From my article in last month's issue of Alameda Magazine:

SCD in Alameda Magazine: bring style to your backyard

Sarah Coombs September 24, 2014

From my article in the latest issue of Alameda Magazine:

The same rules for designing indoors work outside, too. Make sure you have adequate lighting to enjoy [your backyard] late into the evening, but steer clear of harsh fluorescents. String lights, outdoor lanterns, and candles will create a glow that’s far more flattering. Stuck with an unwelcoming, dark corner? A large mirror will do wonders for opening up the space. And if you need a bit more color, try a few throw pillows and rugs. Just be sure to use ones fashioned from outdoor acrylics so they’re sure to last.

(With a toddler in the house, sometimes neat flies out the window.) There are varying degrees of cleanability when it comes to furniture, and you can make your life a lot easier by selecting the right fabric for your living situation.
