I design my fair share of professional workspaces. So I'm always on the lookout for good looking office items, everything from chairs and file cabinets to paper trays and pencil cups. Last week, I came across a new vendor: Poppin. The New York City-based company offers shoppers a shortcut to a visually cohesive space, and with a great price point to boot. With a tagline of "Work Happy," Poppin is doing its part to beautify offices everywhere.
What the company offers, first and foremost, is color. Glorious, sprightly shades, ranging from orange to pink to sky blue to lime green to white. They go to heretofore unheard of lengths to ensure that all of their items--from chairs to file cabinets to pens--have the exact same tone and saturation. Given that different materials are involved with producing all of these things, that's quite a technical feat.
In what I think is a rather neat innovation, you can even shop their site by color, which makes coordinating a workspace extremely easy.
In a world where you can find Pantone ornaments to deck your Christmas tree, I can definitely see a place for Poppin's products. They'll appeal to the color purist amongst us, as well as anyone who wants a shortcut to visual cohesion. I wouldn't recommend doing an office in their goods from head to toe. That's a guideline I keep for any vendor, else a space feels like a showroom rather than a curated and personal environment. But I'm sure I'll be using some of their stuff on upcoming projects. For I too want my clients to "work happy," and that always starts with a good looking desk.
